Time in Turkey: UTC+3 all year

The time in Turkey follows one rule all year: it is three hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). According to the IANA time zone database, the international reference used by computers and phones, this has applied since 7 September 2016. Since then Turkey has not changed its clocks in spring or autumn. The whole country uses one time zone, listed as Europe/Istanbul, so Istanbul, Antalya, Izmir and Ankara always show the same time.

Before 2016, Turkey changed its clocks for summer, which is why some older travel guides still mention a clock change there. Those details are out of date. For planning from Australia, one simple rule is enough: the difference between Australia and Turkey only changes because some Australian states and territories use daylight saving. The time in Turkey itself follows the same rule throughout the year. Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not use daylight saving, so for them the difference stays the same all year.

Time difference between Australia and Turkey

Australia has several time zones, so the difference depends on where you are. The clock on this page uses Sydney time. Sydney is on Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST, UTC+10) for most of the year and Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT, UTC+11) during daylight saving. That makes Sydney seven hours ahead of Turkey in AEST and eight hours ahead in AEDT. So 5pm in Sydney during daylight saving is 9am in Istanbul. Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart follow the same clock changes as Sydney.

Other states differ. According to the IANA database, Brisbane stays on UTC+10 all year, so it is always seven hours ahead of Turkey. Perth is on UTC+8, five hours ahead. Darwin is on UTC+9:30, six and a half hours ahead. Adelaide uses UTC+9:30 in standard time and UTC+10:30 during daylight saving. If you are outside New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT or Tasmania, adjust the converted time for your own state.

  • Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Hobart: 7 hours ahead (AEST) or 8 hours ahead (AEDT)
  • Brisbane: 7 hours ahead all year
  • Adelaide: 6.5 hours ahead, or 7.5 hours during daylight saving
  • Darwin: 6.5 hours ahead; Perth: 5 hours ahead

Daylight saving dates and planning calls with a clinic

The NSW Government says daylight saving started on Sunday 4 October 2026, when clocks moved forward one hour at 2am AEST, and ends on Sunday 4 April 2027, when clocks move back one hour at 3am AEDT. Under the rule in the IANA database, it starts again on the first Sunday in October, which is 3 October 2027. Until 4 April 2027, Sydney is eight hours ahead of Turkey. After that, the difference is seven hours.

If you are planning a consultation or treatment in Turkey, times are often given in Turkish local time. Ask whether a time means Australian or Turkish time, and ask for written confirmation by email or message. Writing down both times, for example "9am Turkish time / 5pm Sydney time", helps avoid missed calls. Because Turkey is many hours behind, a morning call in Turkey usually falls in the afternoon or evening in eastern Australia.

Frequently asked questions

What time is it in Turkey now?

The current time is shown in the “Turkey” clock at the top of this page. As a rule, Turkey is three hours ahead of UTC all year. Sydney is eight hours ahead of Turkey during daylight saving and seven hours ahead the rest of the year. The “Time difference now” line shows the current value.

What is the time difference between Australia and Turkey?

It depends on your state and the time of year. Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart are seven hours ahead of Turkey in standard time and eight hours ahead during daylight saving. Brisbane is seven hours ahead all year, Darwin six and a half, and Perth five.

What time zone is the Australia clock on this page?

It shows Sydney time: Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST, UTC+10) or Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT, UTC+11) during daylight saving. Other states and territories differ, so adjust the result if you live in Queensland, South Australia, the Northern Territory or Western Australia.

Does Turkey have daylight saving time?

No. According to the IANA time zone database, Turkey has used UTC+3 all year since 7 September 2016 and no longer changes its clocks. The difference to Australia changes only because some Australian states and territories use daylight saving. Older guides that mention a Turkish clock change are out of date.

When does daylight saving end in 2027?

The NSW Government says daylight saving ends on Sunday 4 April 2027, when clocks go back one hour at 3am AEDT. From then, Sydney is seven hours ahead of Turkey. Daylight saving in NSW starts again on the first Sunday in October, 3 October 2027.

Is Istanbul the same time as Antalya?

Yes. Turkey has only one time zone, so Istanbul, Antalya, Izmir, Ankara and all other places share the same time. Only the difference to Australia changes, depending on your state and on daylight saving. In your calendar app, choose the Europe/Istanbul time zone for appointments in Turkey.

How do I convert Turkish time to Sydney time?

Add eight hours during Sydney daylight saving and seven hours the rest of the year. So 9am in Istanbul is 5pm in Sydney during daylight saving and 4pm in standard time. Or use the converter: click “Swap direction”, enter the date and time, then click “Convert”.

What should I check before calling a clinic in Turkey?

Check whether a time you were given is Turkish or Australian time, and write down both. Ask for appointments to be confirmed in writing. Remember that Turkey is many hours behind eastern Australia, so a morning appointment there is usually afternoon or evening here.
